KeeleSU wins silver award for sustainability
KeeleSU is once again pleased to announce that we have won an NUS Green Impact silver award for the 5th consecutive year. This reflects our students’ dedication to positive environmental action, turning KeeleSU into a hub of sustainability at the heart of our wider community. Sustainability at KeeleSU promotes thought, motivation and action in support of greener thinking and safeguarding of the living environment.
KeeleSU President, Craig Heath explains:
“KeeleSU recognises that all of its activities impact upon the environment, whether in its day-to-day running or its impact on the wider community. We therefore have a responsibility for, and a commitment to, protection of the environment at all levels. KeeleSU implements and updates a working policy that encourages good environmental practice. Choosing products which offer longevity, implementing energy saving systems, encouraging car sharing, ensuring regular maintenance checks on KeeleSU vehicles and careful waste management are just a few of the matters both staff and students at KeeleSU have considered when looking to improve the ethical and environmental credentials of our Union.”
Over 100 students’ unions across the UK took part in the competition this year, helping to promote sustainability across the wider community.
NUS Vice President (Society and Citizenship) Piers Telemacque commented:
“At NUS, we get sustainability across campuses, curriculums and communities, and Green Impact really is at the heart of these efforts. It is more than just making sure students’ unions building cut down on waste and save energy. It’s about embedding habits in students which last for a lifetime, and making a positive impact in their communities. It’s so inspiring to see thousands of students using Green Impact to shape the sustainable future they want to see, and KeeleSU has been a massive part of that. They should be so proud.”
