What is DoE and how to apply

DE The Duke of Edinburgh's Adward

What is the DofE?

It is a world leading youth achievement award that pushes people aged 14 to 23 to gain new skills, push personal boundaries, gain new skills and enhance their CV. It is a fun adventure and major challenge, which involves three levels of programme you can do which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The main differences between them are the minimum length of time they take to complete, how challenging they are and the minimum age you can start. The DofE is a real adventure from beginning to end. Time to get involved and go the extra mile?

You can achieve a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award by completing a personal programme with a variety of activities. Make a change to your community by volunteering, develop your skills, increase your physical fitness, explore the mountains in your expedition and make friends with the residential section. Each of the sections marked in bold varies in duration but you get to choose the lengths of your Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections.

What is DoFE Direct?

DofE Direct is a way to complete your DofE programme independently without belonging to an organisation that runs the DofE. DofE Direct runs through eDofE, the DofE’s online system where you can add a range of evidence to reflect your efforts throughout your programme all the way up to completion. You will be supported throughout your programme by a Leader via phone, emails and the eDofE messaging system. DofE Direct is solely for those aged 18+ wanting to achieve their Gold Award. At a cost of £75, you will get a welcome pack through the post and you will learn skills that could increase your employability and career prospects. Once you have signed up to DofE Direct, you will receive a call with your leader, via phone or email to discuss the sections as well as to discuss payment and set up your eDofE account. After you have completed your sections, your Leader will go through your submissions and then forward your account to an independent verifier who will approve the Award if evidence is sufficient. Once you have completed your award, you will receive a congratulations letter and a badge as well as an invite to a Gold Award presentation to receive your certificate!
