Race Around The World

Keele University and KeeleSU have joined forces to bring you a new wellbeing challenge that explores environmental and social sustainability challenges facing the world.

We've partnered with World Walking to create a route that takes in 29 milestone locations around the globe. We're inviting staff and students to form teams, or join our Keele Staff and Keele Student Individuals teams, and contribute to our collective challenge to travel 94,125.62km between 1st October and 18th December.

You can travel your distance by any self propelled means, from walking, running or by wheelchair, to cycling, swimming, kayaking or on a spacehopper! Get creative, enjoy getting active and exploring the outdoors, and join our journey around the world.

It might sound like a big journey, but we only need 350 people to complete the equivalent of 5000 steps or 3.5km each day to reach our journey. So put together your team or join our individuals group, and join our Race Around the World!

Keep an eye out for walks and activities to join in with or organise your own, and watch the miles add up.

How do I join?

Each team needs a team leader! To register your team, complete the simple form and we'll send you details of how to get started. Your team could be from your accommodation, your tutorial group, a society or sports team, a staff department or School, or a friendship group. If you're looking to take part as an individual, simply use the same sign up form, and our team will direct you to how to take part.

How much do I need to contribute?

It doesn't matter whether you just want to get a bit more active, enjoy exploring the Keele campus and local area, or whether you regularly do 5km runs or 20km bike rides - in the same way that the sustainability challenges our world is facing needs contributions from everyone, every step or km contributed will take us further on our journey around the globe.

What form of travel can I include?

We want to make the challenge as inclusive (and fun!) as possible. You could travel on foot, in a wheelchair, by bike, on water in a kayak or swimming, by horse, on a treadmill or rowing machine - get creative and enjoy trying new activities while adding to the distance travelled!

What next?

Complete the sign-up form, get your team members ready, and we'll send you a tracking spreadsheet for your team and details of how to create your team on World Walking. Please don't set up individual accounts for each member as we want to be able to see each team's group contributions to the challenge total.
