On 4th March, we sent an email on behalf of the SU to Mr Aaron Bell MP calling for harsher sanctions and addressing the appalling visa policy for Ukrainian refugees. Last week, I received a letter of reply. Aaron attached a letter that he co-signed to the Prime Minister pressing the Home Secretary to do more in providing sanctuary to these refugees.
Due to the letter, the Home Secretary announced the scheme to be expanded and the definition has been extended to include parents, grandparents, adult offspring, siblings and their immediate family members. The number of VISAs granted have risen from 50 to 5,500 since the letter was sent. Although the response does not address all of our concerns, it shows that through actions like these, you can make changes that you’d like to see!
