At Keele University, student-led clubs and societies are a vibrant part of campus life. To ensure these groups can operate safely and confidently, appropriate insurance coverage is essential.

🔍 What Insurance Covers

Keele University provides certain types of insurance coverage for activities organized by officially registered clubs and societies. This typically includes:

  • Public Liability Insurance: Covers legal liability for injury to third parties or damage to property during society events.
  • Employer’s Liability Insurance: Covers liability for injury to volunteers or helpers.
  • Travel Insurance: May be available for society trips abroad, subject to approval and conditions.
  • Equipment Insurance: Some coverage may be available for university-owned or hired equipment.
  • Accident Reporting: All accidents or incidents during society activities must be reported promptly to Keele SU.

🧍‍♂️ Personal Accident Insurance – Team Keele Membership

When you purchase a Team Keele membership, it includes personal accident insurance. This provides additional protection for members participating in sports and physical activities under the Team Keele umbrella. Coverage may include:

  • Accidental injury during training or competition
  • Medical expenses related to covered injuries
  • Permanent disability or death benefits (subject to policy terms)

🧑‍🎓 Personal Accident Insurance – Elite Cover for Active Societies

Keele SU also provides Elite Personal Accident Insurance for members of active societies who may be at increased risk due to physical, outdoor, or performance-based activities.

This policy includes:

  • Accidental Death – £30,000
  • Permanent Total Disablement – up to £100,000
  • Temporary Total Disablement – £60/week (up to 52 weeks)*
  • Loss of Earnings – £85/week (up to 26 weeks)*
  • Hospital Confinement – £40/day (up to 120 days)
  • Dental Expenses – up to £2,000
  • Additional Travel Expenses – up to £500
  • Course Deferment Costs – up to £3,000
  • Coma Benefit – £140/week (up to 52 weeks)*
  • Broken Bones – up to £500 per bone (max £1,000 per claim)
  • Dislocation & Knee Ligament Injuries – up to £250
  • Recovery Therapy – £40/session (max 10 sessions)
  • Optical & Medical Certificate Expenses – up to £150 and £40 respectively
  • Non-Refundable Sports Fees – up to £150
  • Concussion – £250 or £5,000 depending on severity

Eligibility:

  • Full-time or part-time students and affiliated individuals under age 70
  • Must be participating in activities officially recognised by Keele SU

Coverage Area:

  • Worldwide, while participating in or travelling to/from recognised SU activities

  • Register your society with the Keele Students’ Union.
  • Submit risk assessments for all events and activities.
  • Seek approval for off-campus or high-risk activities.
  • Report incidents and accidents promptly to the Insurance Office or Students’ Union.
