Sustainability & Environmental Responsibility

Find out more about the Students' Union's sustainability work and how you can get involved!

At Keele SU, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a commitment to shaping a better future for our planet and our community. We believe that understanding sustainability is essential, and as a university, we have a unique opportunity to lead by example.

We’re proud to make sustainability accessible and inclusive for all students, offering a wide range of opportunities to get involved—from volunteering and workshops to student-led campaigns and societies.

What Students Think

Each year, SOS-UK surveys students about their university experience and career goals. In the latest results, 76% of students agreed that Keele SU takes meaningful action to reduce its environmental and social impact. That’s encouraging—but we’re aiming for 100%.

What We’re Doing

We run impactful student activities and campaigns that cover all aspects of sustainability—from eco-friendly practices to social justice. In 2022, Keele SU declared a climate emergency and launched a Sustainability Action Plan, approved by our Board of Trustees.

Our work aligns with the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development, tackling issues like climate action, responsible consumption, and social equity.

How You Can Get Involved

Sustainability is a shared journey, and we want you to be part of it. Whether you’re passionate about the environment, social justice, or simply want to make a difference, there’s a place for you here. You can:

  • Join a sustainability-focused student group
  • Volunteer for green initiatives
  • Attend workshops and events
  • Help shape our campaigns and policies

Let’s Make a Difference—Together

We’re building a culture of sustainability that extends beyond campus and into the wider world. Your voice, your actions, and your ideas matter. Together, we can create a greener, fairer, and more sustainable future.
