Surgical Society

Founded in 2007 Keele Surgical Society is one of the largest medical societies at Keele. We aim to support and encourage students interested in a career in surgery. Running both local and national events, we cater for a wide variety of interest. Below are listed some of the events we plan to run this academic year:

• Keele National Orthoplastics Workshop - practical sessions in both orthopaedics and plastics, as well as keynote talks from experts in the field
• Keele Suturing Course and Competition - come and learn how to suture and then test your skill against your peers! Teaching from FY1s - Consultant Surgeons!
• Women in Surgery - breakout sessions across the year, with guest speakers presenting on a variety of topics
• Case Presentation Evenings - this is a brilliant opportunity for you to practice your case presenting skills and public speaking. With an expert panel of judges, come and present interesting and intriguing cases
• Keele National Anatomy and Surgery Competition - Think you know your anatomy? What about in a surgical context? This national competition is not one to be missed and a great way to test your knowledge
• Suturing sessions - we have sessions open to Years 1-5 and is by far one of our most oversubscribed sessions. Learn how to suture, preparing you for those surgical rotations
• Keele National Head and Neck Day - the head and neck are vastly complicated and intricate. From ENT to Plastics to Maxfax, there is so much to be learned from this day. With talks in the morning and workshops in the afternoon, this day is not to be missed!

We are also the only medical society to teach surgical skills to Keele students. These are extremely useful skills to develop to make the most of your time in theatre or in A&E.
