Corey 4 Keele – Personal Statement – Experience and Community Officer
Introduction
Hi! I’m Corey, a 4th-year International Relations and Politics student at Keele. Over my time here, I’ve had the chance to be involved in various student-led activities, including Snow Sports, Football, DMK, and KRAP. These experiences have played a big part in shaping my university life, allowing me to connect with a diverse group of students, work within teams, and contribute to creating a strong sense of community at Keele. I’m running for Experience and Community Officer because I want to use these experiences to help ensure every student has a fulfilling, connected, and enjoyable time at Keele.
Why I’m the Right Fit
My involvement in Snow Sports and the student events board has given me a solid understanding of the opportunities and challenges that come with student life. In these roles, I’ve worked with a variety of students to plan events, engage with societies, and help organize activities that cater to different interests. I’ve learned a great deal about how to communicate effectively, manage logistics, and most importantly, bring people together through shared experiences. These roles have also taught me how to listen to the needs of students and how to work with others to create positive and inclusive environments. These experiences are exactly why I believe I’m well-equipped for the role of Experience and Community Officer—I already have the skills and a track record of engaging with students, organizing events, and fostering community spirit at Keele.
My Experience Keele
I want to be a leader who serves students, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to make the most of their time at university. Having participated in multiple student-led activities, I understand the importance of personal growth, whether through sports, societies, volunteering, or social events.
Engagement and Student Feedback
During my time at Keele, I’ve learned that one of the most important aspects of student life is the ability to listen to others and understand their perspectives. I’ve been involved in numerous informal and formal discussions with fellow students about their experiences, and this has made me realise how essential it is to engage with students directly. From sorting out past events like socials or meet up i have actively engaged with students through surveys, casual conversations, and other direct methods of communication.
Student Experience
Having been a student at Keele for several years, I know that a fulfilling university experience goes beyond just sports and social events—it’s about system that caters to every aspect of student life. From helping students connect socially to providing spaces where they can relax and recharge, I want to help build a community where everyone feels they belong. Through my experience organising both formal and informal events, I’ve seen how the right environment can make all the difference in a student’s university life. From my long time at Keele, I have learnt a lot of what students want from their events.
Closing Thoughts
I am truly passionate about student life at Keele and dedicated to using my skills and experiences to make a difference. I’m confident that my time at Keele has prepared me to represent my fellow students and ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive. Thank you for considering me for the role of Experience and Community Officer. I look forward to the opportunity to work together to make Keele an even better place for everyone.
