AI at Keele: Have Your Say

At Have Your Say Day, 599 of you told us what you think about AI at Keele. Your Elected Officers took your views to Union Assembly, and Union Assembly gave us a mandate to find out more. Now we need the full picture.

The survey is open until 08:00 on Monday 23rd November. It takes a few minutes.

Take the survey

On Tuesday 13th October, students across campus told us about AI in their studies. The same worries came up as in February 2026, which means they still haven't been fixed.

  • 76% of you worry about being wrongly accused of using AI.
  • 66% want to be asked before your work is used to train AI.
  • Rules differ between modules. This was the top theme on your postcards, and 27% of you said the rules are unclear.
  • Staff use AI in teaching while students are restricted.
  • 94% of students who don't use AI gave environmental concerns as a reason.

What we did

Your Elected Officers took your findings to Union Assembly on Tuesday 20th October. This is the mandate we got: "Keele SU to lobby the University to review, amend and change its policies on AI."

This survey is how we carry out that mandate. It turns your views into evidence the University has to act on.

What the survey asks

  • What a fair process looks like when AI use is suspected.
  • Where you should be asked for consent before your work trains AI, and how.
  • Which modules and schools have unclear or inconsistent rules.
  • How AI in teaching materials affects your learning.
  • How AI use fits Keele's sustainability aims.

Every voice counts

We want to hear from every school and every level of study. At Have Your Say Day we heard from too few students in some areas, so this time we especially want to hear from:

  • Keele Business School
  • Postgraduates, both taught and research
  • Nursing & Midwifery
  • Medicine
  • Law
  • Harper & Keele Veterinary School

If you're in one of these groups, your response makes a real difference to how complete the evidence is.
