Welcome to Keele University Sailing Society! We offer sailing and paddleboarding opportunities to newcomers and pros alike!

Keele University Sailing Society operates as a part of Nantwich & Border Counties Sailing Club, who provide us with our training, equipment and changing facilities. They also allow us to paddleboard when the wind is not quite present enough for sailing!

We are a society for students of all levels of experience to learn how to sail, create friendships, and develop confidence. It is ideal for students, as sailing is a good ‘all round’ sport, providing a medium to improve stamina, strength, and flexibility. We believe in the bonding power of the sport and think it is a valuable asset for people who want to develop teamwork, leadership, communication and motor skills!

MEMBERSHIP COST:

Nantwich Sailing Club give us a discounted annual membership price of £40 per person, which includes boat hire, life jackets, refreshments, changing facilities and training.

We ask for £5 to cover organisational costs and personal insurance for the SU.

This brings membership to a total cost of £45 per year - £5 payable to the SU and £40 payable to Nantwich and Border Counties Sailing Club.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING:

Sailing, as a water sport, involves getting wet – and unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your view), this tends to be non-negotiable. Your shoes will get wet and there is a chance your clothes will as well. So this is what we would recommend wearing:

  • Warm clothes that you don’t mind getting wet
  • Swimsuit underneath
  • Crocs, sandals or trainers you don’t mind getting wet
  • Wetsuit (if you have one)

And this is what we would recommend bringing with you:

  • Towel
  • Full change of clothes
  • Different shoes
  • Sunglasses or hat (if it’s sunny)

Buoyancy aids/life jackets will be provided and given to you on arrival at the club.

If you want to bring things like waterproof phone cases or speakers, feel free!

RESOURCES:

If you have a look at our “Resources” tab, you will find some documents that explain the basics of dinghy sailing if you are completely new to it, or if you are looking for a refresher!

If you made it this far, thank you for reading and we hope to see you at one of our sessions 😊
