Black History Month Crafternoon

Living Room Area, Ground floor, Keele SU
Thursday 12 October 2023
noon - 2pm

£0.00 (Free)

This event is run by Activities

Join us for a free afternoon of crafts where we’ll be celebrating Black History Month by crocheting black poppies.

The black poppy is worn on Remembrance Day to commemorate the contributions of Black, African, Caribbean and Pacific Islander people during the First and Second World Wars and whose sacrifices have remained largely untold.

In keeping with this year’s theme of ‘Saluting our Sisters! Celebrating Women of Colour’, we are honouring the achievements of Black, forgotten heroines including those of the Six Triple Eight battalion – a group of 855 Black women who came to England in 1945 to clear the two-year postal backlog, led by Major Charity Adams – the first Black woman to command an overseas battalion in the US Army.
