No previous experience is required, just a love for space and an interest in engineering. This could be of particular interest to students interested in exploring a career in the space industry.

What will we be doing?:
SPARK will be taking our team to compete in a national competition called MACH which will involve designing and building a rocket to carry two electronic payloads to a specific altitude, and to return it in one piece. One payload is supplied by the competition, and one designed from scratch by our team.

Opportunities for students to develop engineering skills:
  • Learn electronic design from scratch and help us design our own printed circuit board.
  • Work with different teams to integrate a payload into a launch vehicle.
  • Use computer simulations to study aerodynamics and refine our designs.
  • Develop and apply programming skills to an engineering project

Opportunities for students to develop transferable skills:
  • Rigorous documentation is required by any competition, which are the same skills required in university laboratories and other group projects.
  • Join us in trying to achieve sponsorships by reaching out to local and national companies, draft pitches to grant committees, and helping carry out the terms of sponsorship agreements.
  • Develop project management and teamwork skills by leading groups focused on different aspects of our project such as electronics design, programming, aerodynamics, and payload integration.
