The first UK inter-university Irish dance competition of it's kind! Irish dancers from universities around the UK will be travelling to Keele to compete. Spectator fees £2 per person.
On the 30th November we are running a UK Inter-University Feis at Keele University's Student's Union in Ballroom and Blueprint. There will be two floors dancing at a time, and a changing room available if you need it. The adjudicators are Claire Saxon who is TCRG for Maguire O'Shea Academy, and Kristina Kelly who has been dancing for 17 years (Maguire O'Shea) and has completed 3/4s of her teachers qualification. This is a unique opportunity and I don't think something on this scale has ever been done before so we would be making Irish dance history- I'm getting in touch with the Irish Post and the local news and have written a piece for the November issue of Irish Dancing Magazine. Dancers will be arranged into either beginner's, intermediate and advanced and also in age groups when there are lots of entries. Dress is to be plain and simple. Competitions will be: reel, light jig, hop/single jig, slip jig, heavy jig, hornpipe, trad set, open set, treble reel (16 bars step down the line), 4 hand, 8 hand, "uni modern comp". The uni modern comp is a 2.5-4 minute dance that includes the whole (or many) members of your society to non-Irish dance music and can include anything you want (i.e. arm movements etc). We have stuck to as small a budget as possible to enable the maximum amount of dancers the opportuinty to come. Please see our Facebook event page below and email email@example.com for further questions!
