Noah Lancelott picked for England Community U19s Lions Training Squad
Keele SU Athletic Union are proud to announce that our own talented athlete Noah Lancelott has recently been selected for the England Community U19s Lions Training Squad, who are heading to the European Championships in Italy this September.
The eighteen-year-old first year Bio-Chemistry student has been described as ‘talented winger’ by his Men’s Rugby team members, as he lands a prestigious place to represent his country on the international stage. Noah is no stranger to a rugby pitch, as he competes for the university in the BUCS Rugby Union and for his hometown team Leigh Miners Rangers. His talented has not gone unnoticed as he was recently recognised by Keele University for his sporting ability and was welcomed into our Talented Athlete programme.
Our Athletic Union & Sport Officer Lucy Whitehouse sat down with Noah to hear about his journey in rugby league so far: “I have been playing from the age of 6 years old and I have loved every minute of it! I currently play as a Fullback or a Winger in the NCL Premier Division. My first representative honours first came when I was 16 years old, as I was selected to play for England community Lions against New South Wales, who were on tour from Australia. In addition to this, I was invited to go on tour in Serbia with the U18s England Community Lions, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic this was cancelled”.
However, all was not lost as Noah explained that his journey to the Lions started off with his hometown team coach putting him forward for the regional trials where he competed in the Lancashire regional trials. He then moved on to participate in the February trial, held at Pilkington Recs, which saw sixty players from Lancashire, Cumbria and Yorkshire split across three teams who then played against each other to reveal the final train-on squad. The final 32-player squad will meet up on the 6th March at Noah’s home ground Leigh Miners Rangers' for further training with a view to 21-player squad eventually being selected for the European Championships.
We wish Noah and the under 19s Lions squad the very best for the European Championships later on this tear.
