  • Keele Student’s Union and University partnered with the National Union of Students (NUS) to establish a food growing scheme for students on campus, and help maintain the allotment.

The Student Eats allotment hosts weekly gardening sessions (unless the weather is particularly bad!) and all students are very welcome to attend. Sessions start at 1pm on Fridays.

You do not need to have any prior gardening or veg growing experience - just come along and learn about growing, enjoy some gentle exercise in the outdoors, and enjoy some of the harvest when the crops are ready! There are tools and gloves available.

  • Keele Campus Garden Project volunteers (also known as Campus Green Team) will tour around the campus and look after the dedicated student gardening sites. These include, but are not limited to: Student Eats Walled Garden Allotments, Chancellor's Building Herb Garden, Sustainability Bungalow (during summer), Halls Accommodation planters at Lindsay, Horwood, the Oaks, and Barnes.

The sessions will take place generally on a Friday 1-3pm.

  • The Carbon Literacy Project encourages peer-to-peer training for Carbon Literacy. By supporting Carbon Literacy training at Keele you will be able to join the Carbon Literacy Trainer Certification Scheme.

By volunteering you will hopefully be able to showcase the following skills:

    • A certified CLF will have a level of experience and expertise in either arranging, organising and supporting and communicating a training initiative for learners to meet the Standard, and/or assisting with the direct delivery of training and supporting learners in a face to face environment.

Carbon Literacy: “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”

Find out more about the Carbon Literacy Project here: https://carbonliteracy.com/ (please note this is a national organisation)
