We, Keele SU, will have an amazing Welcome Week to kick start the beginning of your year. We have fantastic, fun and friendly events for you, whether you’re a new student or not.

As the Students' Union, it is our job to support and represent you to make your time at Keele the best it can be.

Keele SU is student-led, we currently have five amazing student officers who have been chosen by students to act and speak on their behalf. They will be your voice on different matters that make up university student life and they'll make sure that you have an unforgettable time here at Keele.

Things at the SU

We have many different facilities in the SU including our Union Kitchen for mouth-watering meals, the Ballroom to party the year away, Blueprint where you can drink delicious cocktails and many more. Take a look at all of our SU venues here.
We also have a top-tier Advice & Support Service (ASK) to help you and your needs, but more on that further down (in the ‘Need some help?’ section).

Our Shops

We have a great many shops around the campus including a brand new Co-op where you can get all of your essential items quickly and easily. We have a Wells Pharmacy too, to support you with your health needs, a campus convenient store, and a couple of take-away and coffee shops to make your life that little bit sweeter. You can find them at 8A on our campus map.

One of the wonderful things about our campus is that it is not all buildings and roads. We have beautiful rural surroundings across our university, so if you ever need to stretch your legs and breath in some fresh air, why don’t you walk around a little on our campus walks?

Newcastle-under-Lyme is Keele’s closest town and will provide you with your necessary needs. It has great supermarket stores including Aldi (ST5 2RN), Lidl (ST5 2RS), Morrisons (ST5 3HY) and Sainsbury’s (ST5 2AF), all within a 2-15 minute walk from the number 25 bus stops.
This town offers a range of familiar shops for you to visit, including Wilko’s, Superdrug, Home Bargains, Costa, and lots more within a 15-minute drive away.


You can get to Newcastle, Stoke Railway Station and Hanley by taking the Number 25 First Bus. Download the First Bus App to get your e-tickets today.
You can also find a list of all the 25 bus stops and you can watch our virtual bus tour guide (coming soon).
We also provide our own FREE Safety Bus service so you can arrive home safely in the evening and early morning hours.


Joining a society is a great way of making new friends, having fun and creating long-lasting memories, and we have more than 100 societies for you to join, here at Keele. So whether you’re into crafts, dance, politics, films, literature or sports we’re sure that you can find your perfect society and club.

Welcome Week is your introduction to life at Keele University, you will learn about what to expect in the upcoming academic year, how to use our facilities/services and get to experience all the students’ union has to offer. We will provide a vibrant schedule of events and activities to help you get to know people and to keep you entertained. Previously we called this week Freshers Week, but this year we are excited to Welcome all students back to Keele.

Keele Welcome Week will begin on Saturday 25th September 2021 and ends on Sunday 2nd October 2021.

Once you are accepted and are granted a place at Keele University, you’ll automatically be part of the Students’ Union. No hassle required.

All official union events are found on our Events and Tickets page, you can find out if it is official or not through there.

It depends on the event. To find out if you need to buy a ticket got to the events page and find your event, click on it and it will tell you if it’s free or not.

Sure thing! All events are open to all students whether you’re new or not.

Yes. You will need to provide your Keele Student Card to attend our events.

This depends on the event you want to attend. All ticket purchases and prices are available to view on each individual event page.

That is completely up to you, but we advise at least 15 minutes before the event starts to guarantee entry.

We will inform you if a Keele event gets cancelled. Any payment that you might have made will be refunded in due course.

You can find out about all of our latest events on our events page. You might want to save this page on your laptop or phone. Alternatively, you can follow our Keele Entertainments Facebook and Instagram pages where we will keep you refreshed on all of our current events.

That depends on the society. To find out, find the society or club that you wish to join and click on them. Once you are on their page, scroll down to the purple bar and find the ‘join us’ tab. It will then provide you with the memberships and costs that they offer.

Yes. To join a sports club, you will need to buy an Athletic Union (AU) membership first, and then you can buy a club membership. However, we do offer a free trial period at the beginning of the academic year so you can have a taste of everything.

No, but you do need to purchase an Athletic Union (AU) Membership, in addition to purchasing a club membership. Find out more on our Athletic Union page.
We do offer an ‘I’m interested’ membership where you can have free taster sessions at the beginning of the year. If you have further questions about club offers, feel free to contact us or them. Their details will appear on their society & club page.

Yes. You can contact our Advice & Support Service (ASK) they are here to help you whatever your issue may be.

Yes, we have many places that you can relax in during Welcome Week, including our Campus Library, the Exhibition Suite in the Chancellor’s Building, The Students’ Union Ground Floor and Keele Campus Grounds. Discover more about our campus facilities.


Being a Students’ Union means constantly evolving and changing to suit the needs of new students like you. You are at the centre of who we are and we’re here to listen.
