These elections are for positions within the Keele Postgraduate Association (KPA).

  • KPA President
  • KPA Vice-President
  • KPA Secretary
They are hosted on the Keele University Students’ Union (Keele SU) election platform, but all roles, responsibilities, and governance relate specifically to the KPA.
 
Only postgraduate student at Keele are eligible to take part.
 
These are KPA elections, delivered using the SU’s system for ease and accessibility.
 

KPA Officer Elections 2026

Keele SU is run by students, for students, and every year at Keele SU we hold elections so that you can decide on a team of student officers to lead Keele SU for the next academic year. Nominations are open until the 4th May at 5pm. Voting is open from the Monday 18th May (9am) - Wednesday 20th May (5pm), with the results announced on Thursday 21st May.

About the roles:

KPA President

The KPA President shall lead and oversee all education, research, and academic representation activity relating specifically to postgraduate students.

This responsibility shall include, but not be limited to:

  • postgraduate bursaries and funding matters;
  • working in partnership with the Education Officer to review feedback arising through the Students’ Union’s representation system;
  • supporting the development and delivery of writing retreats and other academic enhancement initiatives for postgraduate students; and
  • representing postgraduate academic interests in relation to learning, teaching, supervision, and research experience.

The KPA President shall be the principal spokesperson on behalf of postgraduate students at Keele University in matters relating to academic experience, education, and research.

The KPA President shall sit on such University committees, boards, and working groups as are relevant to the representation of postgraduate students and shall provide written or verbal reports where appropriate.

Such committees may include, but shall not be limited to:

  • University Student Voice Committee;
  • Senate; and
  • University Council.

Where the KPA President is the only Students’ Union student representative on a committee and is unable to attend, they may nominate an appropriate representative in accordance with Union procedures.

The KPA President shall sit on relevant Students’ Union committees and governance bodies and provide written or verbal reports where appropriate.

Such committees may include, but shall not be limited to:

  • Trustee Board; and
  • Union Assembly.

The KPA President shall support the strategic integration of postgraduate representation within the wider Students’ Union and work collaboratively with elected officers and staff to ensure postgraduate students’ academic interests are effectively represented.

KPA Vice-President

The KPA Vice-President shall oversee all community and engagement focused activity relating specifically to postgraduate students, which shall include, but not be limited to:

  • Diversity-focused events;
  • in partnership with the Wellbeing Officer, reviewing support systems for students;
  • working with the Union’s Advice departments to review trends in support needed by postgraduate students outside of academic issues.

The KPA Vice-President shall sit on appropriate University committees and working groups, providing written or verbal reports where appropriate. Where the KPA Vice-President is the only Keele SU student representative on a committee, they may send a nominee if they are unable to attend.

Such committees may include, but are not limited to:

  • University Student Voice Committee;
  • EDI Committee.

The KPA President shall sit on appropriate Keele SU committees, providing written or verbal reports where appropriate.

Such committees may include, but are not limited to:

  • Trustee Board;
  • Union Assembly.

KPA Secretary

The KPA Secretary shall support the KPA President and KPA Vice-President in the discharge of their duties and in the delivery of priorities, campaigns, and initiatives relating to postgraduate students.

The KPA Secretary shall act as a representative voice for postgraduate students, proactively seeking feedback, concerns, and ideas from members and ensuring these are communicated to the KPA President, KPA Vice-President, and the Students’ Union as appropriate.

The KPA Secretary shall support the effective integration of postgraduate representation within the wider Students’ Union, including contributing to transition activity, engagement opportunities, and the development of structures that strengthen the postgraduate student voice.

The KPA Secretary shall work collaboratively with elected officers, student representatives, and Students’ Union staff to support the delivery of projects, events, campaigns, and communications relevant to postgraduate students.

The KPA Secretary shall support awareness, engagement, and participation of postgraduate students in Students’ Union democratic processes, services, and opportunities.

The KPA Secretary shall attend relevant meetings, forums, and committees as required in relation to postgraduate representation and shall report on progress against agreed priorities.

The KPA Secretary shall report to the KPA President and, where appropriate, the KPA Vice-President and relevant Students’ Union governance structures.

The KPA Secretary shall undertake such further duties as may reasonably be assigned by the KPA President, KPA Vice-President, or Board of Trustees in support of effective postgraduate representation.
